When To Play Your Suited Cards In Texas Hold'em

There is no doubt that making a flush in Texas Hold'em is a strong hand and it has a better than average chance of winning the hand. It is for this reason that many new / bad poker players will play any two suited hole cards without question.

What needs to be remembered however is that the chance of two suited cards becoming a flush is in the region of 6.5%, a poor percentage. If you choose to always play two suited hole cards then the odds will work against you and help in making you a losing player.

Of course there are instances where two suited cards should be played i.e. having suited aces, connected cards or other high cards. These combinations will at least provide you with alternatives should a flush not be available, such as two high pairs or a straight.

An example of suited cards not to play would be 9-4. Let's assume that the flop gives J-7-4, in this instance you would probably stay in the betting as you have a pair of fours hoping that you may just scrape a win. You may even be dealt a 9 to give two pairs. The hand is still relatively weak and unless you are particularly lucky, all you will have achieved is to lose more chips.

If you are going to play two suited cards then try to make them high ones, or at least cards that will give you the chance to make other hands, apart from a flush.
